The NHL and GoPro have reached a deal that will introduce GoPro camera footage into live game broadcasts.
The GoPro camera’s were used this past weekend during the All Star Game inside the nets, mounted to players helmets and on various places around the glass. During regular games, the glass will likely be the only place you will see footage from the cameras.
Perhaps the bigger news here is that the GoPro cameras are now able to broadcast live – a restriction that previously hindered the device’s ability to be used in live broadcast scenarios. The new capability has been introduced thanks to a partnership between GoPro and Vislink. The NHL is the first to have such a partnership with GoPro and has potential to change how fans watch sports on TV in the future.
