Earlier this week, video streaming service Hulu announced a new partnership with Pizza Hut. The deal, which is expected to launch later this year, will allow viewers to order pizza for pickup or delivery without ever leaving the Hulu environment on their computer. Hulu, which has 5 million subscribers, relies on advertising for the majority of its earnings, and this new “in-stream purchase” partnership is expected to significantly increase the company’s revenue. Hulu and Pizza Hut developed this advertising contract based on the belief that they can effectively engage their target audience: the ‘American couch potato.’ Not only will the deal allow users to order pizza on-screen without ever leaving the movie or TV show they are watching, but it will also give viewers the ability to pick up right where they left off after the order is completed in a few simple clicks. Both Hulu and Pizza Hut can expect to benefit from this digital activation. Hulu will increase their $1 billion revenue, and Pizza Hut will directly connect with one of its key demographics, millennials, that spend a lot of time streaming video on their computers.
