KFC Germany’s, Tray Typer campaign utilized a consumer insight in order to develop a digital solution.
KFC recognized their audience is never without their smartphone and is always connected to their social circles, but eating fried chicken doesn’t make these two behaviors easy. To solve the problem, KFC replaced the thin paper that lined dining trays with a slightly thicker rechargeable keyboard that could connect via Bluetooth to a diner’s phone. The keyboard created a seamless way to eat chicken and still be able to text and post at the same time. KFC tracked conversations through geolocation and saw huge increases at the time of the campaign in their restaurants. In addition, consumers took the branded Tray Typer with them, for a brand this is a reminder that solving a simple problem through digital connection reaps big rewards.
