Kentucky Fried Chicken painted a portrait of Twitter user, Mike Edgette, after he discovered the meaning behind the brand’s 11 follows.
In October, Mike Edgette, a social media manager, noticed that KFC only followed 11 accounts on their Twitter page. After diving deeper, he realized that six of the follows were to men named “Herb” and the other five were follows of the Spice Girls. The quiet action by KFC was a nod to their secret recipe that is made of 11 Herbs and Spices. Edgette’s finding soon went viral and as a thank you for bringing KFC to the attention of the social media universe, they painted a portrait of Edgette getting a piggy-back ride from Colonel Sanders in a forest.
KFC’s painting is very unique in its approach and target but it goes to show how consumer engagement can pay off. In less than one day, the image, which was posted to Reddit, has received over 3,500 comments and 200+ retweets on Twitter.
