Madewell, women’s clothing retailer, recently launched a contest where the top prize was a trip for two to Paris. Entry to the contest was simply laid out on their microsite, and entrants needed only to select one pin from a choice of six and enter their name, email address and zip code to enter. To show that wish lists shouldn’t be made up of only material things, additional pins such as more time, a hug, extra sleep and dance party were available as custom options.

This contest was a smart idea for two reasons: 1. It got potential customers thinking about their own wish lists for the holidays and gently encouraged them to shop for themselves too. 2. The selected pins appeared on the entrants Pinterest board with the auto-post “All I want…is this” – giving their loved ones a hint as to what and where to buy their Holiday gift.
