“The Patrón Experience” lets users project a hacienda, complete with a bar tender, on any flat surface.
That small bartender will then inform the user on the differences between the types of liquor made by Patrón. The app was created using Apple’s ARKit for iOS11, which was announced over the summer. With its early adoption of this development framework, Patrón joins brands like Ikea that have already launched successful AR apps through the ARKit.
While The Patrón Experience doesn’t have the same practical functionality as Ikea’s Place, which allows users to place and view virtual furniture around their home before buying, the brand has managed to buy into the ARKit experience early enough to create some buzz. And while people are checking out the functionality of the AR itself, they’ll be learning a lot about Patrón’s process and products.
